Fires are a deadly and frightening occurrence in any environment. They can spread quickly and cause devastating damage and even death. The portable fire extinguisher was one of the first fixtures for fire safety, and every work environment is required to have one.
How a Fire Extinguisher Works
Portable fire extinguishers apply an extinguishing agent onto a fire which will either cool fuel, remove oxygen or stop the chemical reaction causing the fire.
Types of Fire Extinguishers
Different types of fires will require different types of extinguishers. And each extinguisher will have its own spacing requirement. Each extinguisher contains a certain amount of agent and will cover a different range of space.
How to use an Extinguisher
All portable extinguishers have a simple and effective method of use called P.A.S.S. Or, Pull, Aim, Squeeze, Sweep.
Hydrostatic Testing
Hydrostatic testing, along with a hands-on inspection, is required to keep your fire extinguisher current and operational. Testing should occur on a regular basis and be noted on the extinguisher.
