A fire is a chemical reaction between oxygen and a combustible material that releases heat, light, flames and smoke. Combustible materials can include paper products, oil based paints, metal shavings, and even cooking oils. Each type of chemical reaction will require a different extinguishing agent. A fire extinguisher works by releasing the right extinguishing agent which will cover a certain square footage area. All fire extinguishers have a set of numbers on them denoting how much agent is inside the canister and how much area it should cover.
